Possible causes depend on the leak location and faucet

For Kohler kitchen faucets covered by its support guide, water at the base of the spout while it is running may be associated with debris on seals, O-rings or bearings. If water continues after the faucet is off, Kohler lists debris in the valve or cartridge, or a worn check valve or spacer. These are model-specific possibilities, not causes for every faucet.

Delta says a drip from the spout on certain single-handle kitchen faucets may involve debris or worn seats and springs. For a specific Delta two-handle widespread lavatory faucet with water below the sink, Delta describes possible installation or connection issues, including a Quick-Snap connection that is not seated correctly. That example does not apply to every faucet or under-sink leak.

  • Does water appear at the spout base only while running, or continue after the faucet is off?
  • Is the visible moisture at the handle, faucet base, sink deck, or below the sink?
  • Does the fixture have one handle, two handles, a pull-down hose, or another feature?

Identify the faucet before looking for parts

If visible without moving the fixture, share its maker and model number. Delta’s parts finder, for example, asks for the product model and separates some repair-part suggestions by leak location; those listings apply to Delta products and should not be generalized to another brand.

A photo of the whole faucet and the area where water appears can help explain the symptom. A photo cannot show the internal condition, prove which seal has failed, or distinguish every leak path. Avoid dismantling the faucet or reaching into wet electrical areas.

Get help when water is spreading or the source is hidden

If water is collecting in a cabinet, spreading across the floor, or coming from an unclear connection, stop using the fixture and seek appropriately qualified plumbing help. For a small repair to an existing fixture or connection, see plumbing repairs. Include what you saw, when it occurs, the fixture model if known, and your New Jersey town or ZIP.
