Where do you see or hear water?
A toilet that refills or runs between flushes is different from water visible around the base, supply connection, tank, or bowl. Kohler’s model support separates internal tank-to-bowl running from leaks at the tank, supply, and floor; the symptom alone does not identify a failed part.
Notice whether the sound is continuous or occasional, whether water is visible outside the toilet, and whether it appears after a flush. These observations help describe the issue without opening the tank or making a diagnosis.
What information helps identify the next step?
If it is easy to see without moving anything, note the toilet brand/model, whether the tank and bowl are separate, the apparent location of the water, and whether the floor or nearby wall is getting wet. A wide photo can show the surrounding area; a closer photo may help show where water first appears. Neither a photo nor a single symptom confirms the source.
When to stop and get help
If water is spreading, the floor is becoming soft, or the source is not clear, stop using the fixture and contact an appropriately qualified plumbing professional. Do not reach into hidden connections or take apart the toilet based on a general article. For a small repair to an existing fixture or connection, see the plumbing service page.
