The mount’s instructions control its intended setup

Some products are explicitly designed for mounting through drywall without fastening the wall plate directly into a stud. For example, SANUS’s LML1 instructions specify conditions for that particular product, including minimum drywall thickness, sound drywall, wall studs no more than 24 inches apart, and avoiding patched, seamed, or uneven areas. The wall still has framing behind the drywall. These instructions are not a universal drywall rule, and this model’s stated TV range does not prove that another product or wall is suitable.

Check the whole combination

A useful assessment needs the TV model or weight, the exact mount model and its instructions, the wall type and condition, and the intended position. A wall that appears to be drywall may have a different backing or finish; water damage, a prior patch, a seam, or an uneven surface can matter under some manufacturers’ instructions.

If any of those details are uncertain, do not infer capacity from a generic anchor rating or from the screen size alone. Have the specific combination assessed before hanging the TV.

What to share before arranging work

Send the TV and bracket model, if known, plus a wide photo of the wall and a closer view of the intended area. Note any visible damage, previous patch, or unusual finish. A photo supports an initial conversation but cannot reveal every hidden wall condition. See TV wall mounting and the TV mounting estimate guide for equipment and access factors.
